Meeting with ACT Alliance

UWOPA Meets ACT Alliance

Act Alliance met with UWOPA on how best to strategize support the process of passing the Sexual Offences Bill. It was noted that Faith based organizations were not engaged when CSOs were appearing before the committee of Legal and Parliamentary Affairs to present their provisions to the Bill.

It was pointed out that there were controversial provisions in the Bill that development partners did not support such as unnatural offences stipulated in clause 16 that are controversial on the guy community. There was need of making improvements and introducing new provisions that other partners would suggest.

ACT Alliance is a coalition of 150 churches and church-related organisations working together in over 125 countries to create positive and sustainable change in the lives of poor and marginalized people regardless of their religion, politics, gender, sexual orientation, race or nationality in keeping with the highest international codes and standards.

During the meeting convened at Parliament, the Coordinator, Ms. Mary Harriet Lamunu added that a report was ready and would be presented to the committee. The bill is expected to be taken for second reading at Committee stage and later third reading where it would be passed into law.
