Gender ministry urged to incorporate Women MPs in UWEP implementation

The Minister of State, Gender and Cultural Affairs has agreed to incorporate the women MPs in the Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Programme at the districts. This was during a meeting held by the minister and the National Programme Coordinator together with the UWOPA executive committee representatives at the ministry headquarters on 23rd September 2016. The programme is designed to address challenges faced by women in undertaking economically viable enterprise including the limited access to affordable credit, limited technical knowledge and skills for business development, limited access to markets as well as information regarding business opportunities.
The move by the minister to put a member of parliament on the district UWEP fund across the country is geared to promote transparency and improve monitoring and accountability of the fund.
The fund has been piloted in 19 districts and will be soon rolled out to 115 districts, 41 municipalities and KCCA.
